maybe the straight line and alternate for rapid fire can be two different weapons. alterate one looks like it'll be easier to hit since its double the width.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. The straight line will be a sorta of sniper shot. The way I thought it was that rapid fire is more about quantity in a relatively small area. But the straight line would be about accuracy over a long distance. But I'll flesh out that idea on the next post.
One design guideline I'd like to stick to for this game is to make every attack seem like they move slow enough that players have some chance to avoid them if they see the projectiles coming. That means I'd like to avoid something precisely like a sniper rifle. Although something that could be cool is a weapon that emits a thin, harmless beam in a straight line for 2 seconds before growing into a bigger, damaging beam for an instant. Players would be able to see the beam before it expands, giving them the chance to take cover (although actually dodging a beam weapon without cover would be incredibly difficult).

ReplyDeleteI see your point. Actually... You know, Thomas, that gives me an idea.
