What do you guys think if we add another extra button for sheild? I'm thinking this shield is able to use any time and however many times you want. It will protect you from any attack. But the draw back is, while you're using it, you won't be able to attack. Also, there is a few second recharge time once it's used. This may solve the problem of not being able to dodge the shots... Just a thought.
I have no problem with adding a new action that uses a different button for prototyping purposes. However, I think it's a good idea, if you would explain what you're trying to achieve with your idea? (e.g., How is it fun? Does it just give the player another action to consider or think about using when a shot is fired, or is there something more to it that you have in mind?). Also, I don't understand what you mean by this "may solve the problem of not being able to dodge"; what's the problem?
ReplyDeleteAnd, what are the specifics? Can it last indefinitely or does it only lasts X seconds? What's the recharge time in seconds? Can the player move when blocking? and if so, at what speed? Does blocking give 360 degrees of protection? Does blocking completely negate damage or only a %? Are there weapons that can pierce or nullifies blocking? Are there different types/variations of blocking that may serve different purposes (explained below)? etc.... Note, I intend to add the ability to detect at least 3 variations for input buttons. 1) standard 1-click, 2) double-click, and 3) hold/pressed.
I can attempt to implement your idea if I'm given enough details (and have enough time).
P.S., I was intending to add a speed boost ability that would be mapped to a separate button (and the ability would "use" up highlighted tiles), but I don't have (or have forgotten) the purpose for it so I'm not going to implement it.
Err, I get carried away sometime with complicated design ideas (because I tend to play relatively complex games)... But we want "simple" (somewhat along the lines of Bomberman, but probably a bit more complicated).
ReplyDeleteIf we want a shield, here's an idea for it that doesn't use buttons:
ReplyDeleteWhenever the player is not moving or attacking (idle), a shield pops up around, protecting 360 degrees against a certain amount of damage. There should be some very slight delay after going idle for the shield to form. The shield has a certain amount of health. If the health gets overloaded, the player loses the shield ability for a few seconds.
The result is if a player sees a shot coming, he can stand still to block it, and then counterattack after the enemy has used up his shots. But this won't be effective against multiple shooters since they can quickly overload the shield of an immobile target.
